Mental Health Safety Lessons

Dear Deltona High School Parent or Guardian,

On five (5) dates identified on the back of this letter, we at DELTONA HIGH SCHOOL will begin to show videos addressing Safety, Decision Making, Substance Abuse Prevention and Mental Health to meet the state mandate for required instruction in these areas. Our scheduled lessons will talk about mental and emotional health and wellness.

The program used for this lesson is the MBF Teen Safety Matters, which teaches teens about emotional, physical, and digital safety. It is based on the latest research and has been reviewed and endorsed by national experts. Within the lesson, they will learn about the MBF Teen Safety Matters Safety Rules.

Hurricane Nicole Makeup Plan

We are pleased to announce that Volusia County Schools and Volusia United Educators have reached an agreement to make up instructional time lost due to Hurricane Nicole.  A total of 10 hours of instruction was lost.  The instructional time will be made up utilizing 11 consecutive Early Release Wednesdays beginning on January 11, 2023.

The following dates will now be regular school hours for students:

  • January 11, 18, and 25
  • February 1, 8, 15, and 22
  • March 1, 8, and 22

In order to mitigate the teacher planning time lost as a result of utilizing Early Release Wednesdays, the following meeting requirements have been adjusted:

January 11, January 25, February 22, and March 22 Early Release Professional Learning sessions have been canceled.
PLC meetings scheduled for the weeks of January 18, February 15, and March 1 will be canceled to allow teachers to have individual planning time.
The weeks of February 1 and March 8 were previously designated block-out dates for meetings.
February 8th was previously identified as a Non-Early Release Wednesday.

The Early Release Wednesday schedule will resume on March 29th.
