Food and Agricultural Sciences

The Food & Agricultural Science Academy is a career based program where students can explore careers through food science and related agricultural careers. Food Science is a unique blend of agriculture, farm to table, food chemistry and culinary skills. Courses offer students the chance to participate in preparations for career readiness as well as various college bound opportunities. Students who apply and are accepted into the academy will take part in a unique learning environment that helps to give them a clear career path and focus on post-secondary preparation.

The Food and Agricultural Sciences academy takes a hands on approach to learn the concepts of farm to table. Students learn a broad overview of agriculture and agriscience in 9th grade and then concentrate on food science applications in 10th and 11th grade. As seniors we bring together the bigger picture and focus on agricultural leadership management. Currently, FAS Academy students can earn 3 Industry Certifications and become CAPE Scholars if they earn all 3. Students are actively involved in the Deltona Sr. FFA which is our Nationally recognized CTSO. Our FFA chapter has been named one of Florida’s Finest FFA chapters for 20 years running. We focus on premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education in the FFA.

Students will have the opportunity to sit for industry certifications and have the option of qualification for Gold Seal Scholarships and Internships. Students will also interact with guest speakers who are professionals in the community, take part in job shadowing placements, participate in field study trips, and to join the local, state and national co-curricular student organization (FFA).

A limited number of students are accepted into the academy as incoming Freshman. Applications become available in December. Once seats are filled, late applicants will be placed on a waiting list for consideration, if openings become available.
