AVID at Deltona High School
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a national program with a mission to close the gap in college graduation rates among diverse and underrepresented demographic groups.
AVID is a 4-year program that gives students the necessary skills to be successful in college and future careers. These include, but are not limited to
- Note-taking strategies
- Study strategies
- Organizational skills
- Public speaking
- College and career research
- College/Career/Scholarship application process
- Financial literacy and money management
- SAT/ACT Test Prep
AVID students are expected to take a more rigorous course load (Honors, Pre-AICE/Cambridge, or Dual Enrollment). The AVID elective is structured to provide exposure to a wide variety of academic habits and skills to prepare students for success in their chosen career path. AVID tutorial days are intended to give students the opportunity to study, collaborate, and complete coursework in a supportive environment. AVID students are also given opportunities to tour college campuses for enrichment and prospective enrollment information.
Candidates for the AVID program are expected to
- Maintain a 2.5+ GPA
- Achieve Level 3+ on FSA/EOC/F.A.S.T. testing
- Acceptable attendance with less than 6 absences within a quarter
- Uphold the student code of conduct at all times
